Question of the Week: “What is Your New Year’s Resolution?”

The new year is here — and 2019 provides a fresh opportunity to wipe the slate clean. Recently, some members of the Choate community took a moment to share their New Year’s resolution.

Dey Wallace-McKinstry ’21:

My New Year’s resolution is to focus and emphasize the positivity around me. I want to appreciate and spread positivity and avoid the negative aspects that could potentially ruin my year. My motivation for this resolution was through the reflection I had on myself at the end of last year. I saw myself constantly stressing over things I shouldn’t have actually bothered. I realized that this was a problem, considering how unimportant those things were. I came to a realization that I had so many more things to be happier about.

Medha Illindala ’21:

I want to improve on my general health. I want to better my eating habits and take time to focus on my mental health. I want to work on cutting toxic things out of my life. My eating habits aren’t great — I’ll either have days where I don’t eat a single meal, have a bowl of cereal when I get home, or eat a lot of junk foods. I’ve only recently started to realize that some of my habits aren’t helping to make me feel good about myself. Above all, I really want to start really working hard to improve my academic performance. My parents are driving me to improve my grades, and I know that I can also push myself a little further. I hope my resolution will bring good health and happiness.

Di’Anna Bonomolo ’20:

My New Year’s resolution is to focus on self care, become more confident, and work to my limit. In terms of self care, we could always use a lot more self care and incorporation of wellness into our schedules. I hope these resolutions bring happiness, ease, and less stress. I am 16, so I feel like I shouldn’t be stressed out of my mind. Additional small goals would to be to learn new styles of hip-hop, put myself out there in the technical dance world, and focus on how we can change the negative parts of Choate culture, as well as figure out where to execute my passion of the need for social justice.

Wilson Wang ’19:

I have recently picked up singing, so my New Year’s resolution is to advance my vocal skills. I wanted to do this because I became more and more interested in musical theater. I started watching all these shows, and my recent favorite is actually Mean Girls. I was amazed by this form of art, and, as an actor, I was inspired to explore the field of musical theatre to expand my horizon. I am actually hoping to understand more about myself and my abilities through singing. I hope 2019 is going to be a year when I can further pursue musical theatre and attend a college that I desire.
