Choate C-Proctors planned various interactive events and activities in recognition of Earth Day on April 22 to educate community members on the importance of environmental sustainability and climate consciousness. By participating in Earth Day activities, the Choate community hopefully felt a sense of urgency and responsibility when it comes to saving the planet.

“Earth Day is very important because it serves as a reminder to people about how much we actually have to do to not even maintain, but save what we have left of our planet,” C-Proctor Jimena Acosta ’23 said. Acosta spent time coordinating an Earth-themed trivia via social media and planning the upcoming events, such as t-shirt and cookie decorating, in honor of Earth Day. Acosta said that the events were designed to spark conversation and awareness for climate change and resource conservation, as well as remind students and faculty of their impact on the state of the world.

C-Proctor Sarina Fernandez-Grinshpun ’25 spoke of the impact the events had at Choate. She explained that Earth Week was “an easy way to learn more about sustainability. The library will be playing educational videos, there’s a lot of posters around campus with information on them, and it’s just a fun activity to do.”

She believes that Earth Week will encourage students to approach sustainability in new ways, such as by repurposing clothing or appreciating nature and the outdoors. Sabrina Wang ’23, who participated in community service at the Wallingford Land Trust in honor of Earth Day, said that “I never had been around Wallingford, especially in nature, so I really enjoyed the opportunity to explore the nature of Wallingford and I learned a lot about the importance of preserving wildlife. It was an engaging experience and I feel like I learned a lot!” The activities planned by the Choate community honors their appreciation for the environment and Choate’s dedication to sustainability.
